Lyric Poetry

Lyric poetry is a form of poetry used to express feelings. Lyric poems have specific rhyming schemes and are but not always set to music or a beat. Two examples of a lyric poem can be an ode or a sonnet. Lyric poetry is a rhyming poetry with specific rhyme schemes that express personal and emotional; feelings. In the ancient world a lyric poem was meant to be played to a lyre. ( a hollow-wodden instrument with 3-5 strings). Lyric poems don't have to rhyme.

The bullet sped as fast as light,
Time slowed down--
The prisoner running as fast as an ant,
Running, running for his life.

Spinning like a wheel,
Fire glowed from the gun,
While the prisoner still-
Running, running for his life.

Cold sweat running down his horrid face--
And the sound of running footsteps faded.
